The Story of My Father and the Pangolin – A Chance Encounter Between Different Lives
In 1986 my father bought this piece of untouched wilderness in the mountains to set up a pesticide free eco-farm. Here he spent the happiest period of his life living a carefree existence as a farmer.
When a hunter caught a pangolin in the woods one day, my father didn’t want to see the creature end up in a cooking pot. He therefore bought the pangolin and asked the hunter to release it back into the wild.
In the summer of 2003, our beloved father passed away and left behind his farm forever. Carrying on our father’s wishes, we as his sons began the annual weeding of the farm in late autumn. Under the fruit trees on the mountain peak we discovered three pangolin burrows while over a dozen pits dug by pangolins in their search for food were also found half way up the mountain. The pangolin is a protected species with an extremely sensitive sense of smell that feeds on termites. A nocturnal creature only active during the night, it can only found in pure and unpolluted wilderness. They had surely chosen to nest and bring up their family on our farm because they knew that the farmer would not hurt them.
My father had saved the life of the pangolin nearly twenty years ago. To discover its descendants living on at our farm left us deeply touched.
To live in harmony with all life and do them no harm was the most important ideal that our father had taught us.

The Plum Essence Company is a family concern based upon the tradition of “Natural Farming”. This priceless “Natural Farming” experience has been passed down since 1986 and has been combined with the expertise for trace element extraction.
Our company controls every part of the production cycle by having our own farm, our own factory, our own brand and until it enters the market. We are a company dedicated to using only pure ingredients to produce clean and healthy products.

The Plum Essence’s dedication to developing new innovative technologies saw it recognized as an outstanding company in 2004 and 2005 by the Small and Medium Business Administration (Ministry of Economic Affairs) for two years running. |
Organic Certification
In spring 2005 the company decided to have the “Pangolin Eco-Farm” apply with the “Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan” accredited “Tse-Xin Organic Agricultural Foundation” (TOAF) for certification as an “Organic Farm” in memory of our father’s dedication to pesticide free agriculture. After repeated on-site inspections of the farm by the TOAF and the farm’s soil being sent for laboratory testing… eventually the long and complex process was completed and in April 20 we were finally certified as an organic farm. This honor three years after his passing was recognition of our father’s seventeen years of dedication. The name of the farm has now been listed on the TOAF website as well.
Our Own Brand
 To expand our international sales, the trademark “Healthy Forest” has been registered with the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Intellectual Property Office and is used on all of our company’s products. Applications have also been lodged in countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, the United States, Japan and China.
